Horizontal Search

Posted by sandnsurf on September 2008

Vertical search engines create, collate and display information to mulch our fertile minds.

Whilst the very clever search engine writers are dreaming up ingenious ways to improve our searching strategies there is an equally clever population of coders writing collating software to keep us visually engaged and stimulated as we browse, surf and stumble our way through the land of pixels. We have already discussed some of the alternate visually stunning search engines and now a new concept – the vertical search with horizonatal scroll

Widexplorer.com is a new way to view, surf, search and rationalize the way we explore the web. You can visit multiple websites simultaneously (horizontally), allowing you to discover and consume everyday online content in a more productive way, through an innovative page structure and functionality. Bidirectional search (horizontal-vertical) stimulates left brain-right brain conversation, enhances spatial orientation and improves browsing functionality. Scroll horizontally to view the websites inside the webset, and scroll vertically to navigate within them.

Widexplorer offers two main features

  • Collated websites opening in a non-tabbed single browser with all websites within a webset opening simultaneously and allowing easy horizontal web surfing. For example search the latest ‘buzz’ on the net by opening Digg, Yahoo Buzz, Delicious, Reddit, Mixx, Technorati and popurls. Click on a link and a new window opens with that page.
  • Aggregated search (not collated search) allows the user to across the top search engines and view side-by-side, comparative yet fully-interactive pages of results. Standard search will provide results from Google, Wikipedia, Yahoo Answers, YouTube, MSN Live Search, Scribd and Delicious

Explore the pre-made websets

  • Currently 20 pre-made websets are available with more are under construction
  • Websets such as ‘news’, buzz’, ‘tech’ are collations of the most influential and trustworthy online destinations for those themed topics
  • Simple way to view alternate responses to search queries across the top search providers
  • Further rationalize your search query by general, Web, Images and Video search options

Customize your websets

  • Easy to create your own websets
  • Time-saving and productivity tool that lets you stack (horizontally) and view (simultaneously) your favorite websites in a single click

Advantages

  • Save lots of time and be more productive by visiting multiple websites simultaneously
  • Find and consume online content easier, in less time, with fewer clicks
  • Share websites, documents, videos, etc. in a more attractive, useful and visually appealing way
  • Instead of opening new tabs and navigating to individual sites, then clicking back-and-forth between tabs, you get it all in one shot

Try it out. You will be impressed. Or Read some more reviews
