Economic Rationalism…for kids
Posted by sandnsurf on August 2008
With interest rates hitting 10%, house prices still through the roof and the world stock market in crisis…the need for economic rationalization has arrived. Inflationary pressure has led to a global decline in the erstwhile ‘pocket money’ and through the wisdom of children a new economic model has been created.
Project ‘Wish List Box’ commenced in earnest today with a working party and sub-committee defining the key stakeholders and substantive recipients of the titled project. Following robust debate the mission statement, rules and regulations have been determined (subject to ‘fairy-tale character’ amendment; see sub-clause 21.f “the consensus of the Tooth Fairy, Father Christmas and associated Halloween kinfolk”)
In Summary:
- Financial realization:
- All monies/assets formerly collected by the interested parties for household duties be ‘frozen’ pending review
- All assets from, or pertaining to, “porcine containers” be counted, collated and appropriately re-distributed to the ‘Wish List Box”
- Remuneration scales to be re-drawn in the light of global financial crisis
- Age-related tasks of the incumbents to be redefined as per sub-clause 32.e – specifically taking into account ‘new or previously withheld’ information pertaining to the recipients ability to perform simple household duties
- Recipients – required actions
- Define “Wish List’
- Diagrammatically outline intended repositorium
- Labour unaided to create working model of repositorium
- Affirm defined tasks and appropriate remuneration
- Determine penalty for not completing defined tasks
Today I am very happy to announce that after much debate, deliberation and cogitation the wish list has been derived and the remuneration/penalty packages agreed. With arduous labour having consumed most of the day – a successful outcome has been enjoyed.

The Wish List Box – monies will be deposited in the ‘Wish List Box’ on recipients completion of pre-determined tasks to the satisfaction of the more senior members of the family alliance. At years end the contributions (if sufficient) will activate a ‘wish’ from the ‘wish list’
- To see snow
- Go fishing in Kalbarri (6 hours North of Perth)
- Buy more paint
- Appropriate a pet (name, size, shape, and taxonomic derivation yet to be determined)
Penalty box – (to be renamed “Mummy’s running away fund”). Failure to appropriately complete task-oriented remuneration will result in the re-direction of ‘Wish Box’ contributions to the ‘Running away fund’. At years end these contributions may be redeemed by the named party for a child free excursion

Late breaking news:
The Tooth Fairy is now contractually bound to refer all ongoing payments to the ‘Wish List Box’ until further notice – still working on Santa

Interestingly our kids just seem to want to spend the money in their porcine containers…we’re house hunting at the moment and we get repeated offers from the boys to help pay for any house they like!

Still too early for our kids, but this is a great plan. And fantastic wishboxes. Sounds like great fun.
